Author's Note
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| While this book is a chronicle of my life in the music business, it is also a very personal diary. From bohemian beginnings on a hillside in New Jersey to countless stages across the USA, Canada, and Europe, I have persisted in my eclectic, counter-industry "stranger in a strange world" kind of journey. From my first recording at the age of twelve, to my adventures at the feet of the rediscovered blues masters when I was fifteen, I have loved and played blues against all odds for most of my life. Through experiences with record labels large and small, extensive touring that has worn out various roadworthy vehicles, dealing with naysayers, skeptics and detractors, I have somehow survived to earn a gold record in Europe and five Blues Music Awards. It's fair to say, "Been there, done that, and got the T-shirt." Over the span of sixty unusual and sometimes unbelievable years, I have gained perspective on a world which has undergone tumultuous change- from the music it listens to and creates, to the very essence of the lives we lead. Whether encountering a young Bob Dylan at my father's sandal shop in the sixties or working in the studio with Stevie Wonder, this book is about those unlikely adventures, and those noteworthy people, in the world of music of course, but also in my most personal experiences.
